Author Guidelines for Ngā Ara Whetū Report Series

1. Formatting and Style
    • Numbering: Continuous line numbering throughout the text.
    • Font: Use Calibri font size 11 for the main text and size 10 for footnotes.
    • Line Spacing: Set line spacing to 1.5.
    • Margins: Ensure margins are set to 1 inch on all sides.
2. Title Page
    • Title
    • Author details, including affiliations and ORCID number.
    • Corresponding author with email address.
3. Acknowledgements (optional)
4. Summary
    • Include a summary at the beginning of the report.
    • The summary should not exceed 300 words and must concisely outline the report’s objectives, methodology, key findings, and conclusions.
5. Citations and References
    • Use the APA (American Psychological Association) style for all citations and reference lists.
    • Ensure all sources are accurately cited in the text and included in the reference list at the end of the document.
    • For further guidance, refer to the latest edition of the APA Publication Manual.
6. Illustrations, Photos, Tables, and Other Visuals
    • Clearly label all illustrations, photos, tables, and visual elements as Figures (e.g., Figure 1, Figure 2) and provide a descriptive caption for each.
    • Ensure that all visuals are of high resolution and clearly visible.
    • Cite the source of each visual element in the caption, unless created by the author.
    • Position visuals near the related text in the report, if possible.
7. Submission Format
    • Submit the report as a Microsoft Word document to
    • Name your files clearly, starting with the last name of the lead author and the report’s title (e.g., Smith_ClimateChangeReport2024.docx).
8. Review and Revisions
    • After submission, your report will undergo a peer review process.
    • Be prepared to make revisions based on reviewer feedback.
    • Final acceptance of the report is contingent upon the implementation of required revisions to the satisfaction of the review committee.
9. Publishing Ethics
    • Ensure all content is original and fully credited where necessary.
    • Disclose any conflicts of interest.
    • By adhering to these guidelines, authors contribute to the consistency and professionalism of the report series, enhancing its value to readers and participants in the field.


During submission, authors will be asked to confirm that:

    • The work as submitted has not been published or accepted for publication, nor is being considered for publication elsewhere, either in whole or substantial part.
    • All authors and relevant institutions have read the submitted version of the manuscript and approve its submission.
    • All persons entitled to authorship have been so included.
    • The work is original, and all necessary acknowledgements have been made.
    • The work conforms to the legal requirements of the country in which it was carried out, including those relating to conservation and welfare, and to the journal’s policy on these matters.
    • Third party data sets used in this work are either publicly available for unrestricted reuse or permission for reuse has been obtained from the data owners.


All co-authors will receive confirmation of submission.

Cover letters are optional and should be used to provide additional information not present in the manuscript which is relevant for the editorial office or editors.
