Ngā Ara Whetū, the Centre for Climate, Biodiversity & Society submits this evidence-basedcontribution to the 2026 National Climate Change Risk Assessment, drawing on 20+ recent peer-reviewed publications produced by our affiliated academics. Our submission identifies andcontextualises a range of climate-related risks and vulnerabilities across NCCRA’s sevendomains. Our synthesis highlights three overarching concerns: (1) indirect and cumulativestressors across ecosystems, (2) the erosion of adaptive capacity in social-ecological systems, and (3) fragmented governance structures. We urge the Commission to integrate these insights indeveloping a systems-based, equity-oriented national risk framework.
